Graduate Development Industrial Services
Our Graduate Development Program is one way in which we look to attract and develop the future leaders and industry experts of our business. Our scheme is certified by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) giving ample opportunity for graduates to achieve Chartered Engineer status. Established programmes within Scientific, Chemical and Computing offer similar opportunities.
How does it work?
Finding your feet
During your induction to the program you will be introduced to GL’s impressive heritage, the environment in which we operate and our future plans, of which you will be a significant part. You will also be introduced to our business tools; meet key members of our Management and Mentoring team, and start networking with other graduates.
We then concentrate on helping you to build your skills across a wide variety of sectors on an ongoing basis. The practical application of technical knowledge is core to our business and forms a fundamental part of our graduate development. We will help you build on your existing technical skills, how these skills apply to our clients needs and give you the opportunity to work alongside industry experts on a variety of live projects.
Your communication, financial, commercial and project management skills will also be honed and developed, giving you a firm foundation on which to build your career.
You will never be on your own
You’ll find support whenever you need it. To help you achieve your goals and enable you to contribute effectively to GL’s objectives, you will be assigned a mentor to give you experience and professional guidance throughout the program. Your line manager will also meet with you on a regular basis to discuss and review your progress and of course your colleagues will be there to welcome you to the team and guide you.
What happens after the GDP?
GL encourages and supports the ongoing development of its employees, particularly to gain accreditation with the relevant professional bodies. Your Personal Development Plan (PDP) can include ongoing technical training, management training, additional accreditations and further degrees.
What are we looking for?
You will be a recent graduate (BSc, MSc or PhD) in a scientific or engineering subject who can demonstrate a committed, hardworking attitude, and who is looking to excel in your chosen field.
