Ship Recycling for Ship Yards and Suppliers
Marine Environmental Protection
The course gives an introduction for ship yards and manufacturers on how to prepare an Inventory of Hazardous Materials and related documentation according to the new requirements of the "International IMO Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships".
This course describes the sequence of processes for the preparation of an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) as required for new ships. The ship yards are responsible but relying on the identification and documentation processes of hazardous materials in components and equipment by manufacturers and suppliers. Thus the aspects of related communication between suppliers, manufacturers, as well as ship yards are to be based on complex and manifold processes. It is advisable to set up communication structures which allow for an automated transfer of related forms (Material Declaration and Suppliers Declaration of Conformity (SDoCs)) and direct utilisation via the GL IDOC software tool for effective preparation of IHM by ship yards.
Course objective
Participants will learn how to prepare an IHM and the related forms according to the IMO Convention's requirements. Solutions for configuration management at suppliers and ship yards for data collection including related external and internal communication structures will be introduced.
