Ship Recycling for Ship Owners

Marine Environmental Protection

The course presents the responsibilities of ship owners related to the new IMO Convention.

After a general introduction about the ship recycling industry, the new requirements of the IMO Convention are presented to the participants. Then the participants will be informed in detail about the preparation of an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for existing ships, for which they will be responsible, and the IHM Certification  processes including an overview of related tasks for newbuilds. A software tool developed by GL designed to support the tasks will be introduced as well. Finally the tasks of the ship owners, as well as documentation and reporting requirements, including implementation into fleet management, will be discussed.

Course objective

Participants will learn about the new requirements of the IMO Convention and be made aware of their responsibilities. The participants will benefit greatly from gaining this knowledge about the new requirements in advance.
