The module provides an overview of the legislation addressing ships' waste disposal (international, national, regional). Furthermore, the subjects of waste production and waste minimisation through optimised supply are addressed.

Different waste treatment practices on board are introduced as well as the requirements for reporting and recording of disposals, and examples of optimised waste disposals are presented. Information is provided on the treatment of hazardous waste.
