In accordance with the German shipping administration (SeeBG) "Guideline for Implementation Ashore of the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) in Shipping Companies" it is recommended that the Designated Person should possess the qualifications, training and experience which are listed in MSC-MEPC.7/Circ.6.
Course objective
- Provision of training related to safety management elements in compliance with the requirements of the ISM Code, taking into account the guidance issued by the IMO to qualify as DP
- Update of knowledge and awareness of developments regarding ISM matters for persons acting as DP

- Knowledge and understanding of the ISM Code, including the 2010 Amendments
- Handling of maritime rules, regulations, guidelines and recommendations
- Key elements for implementation and maintenance of the SMS
- Assessment techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating and reporting
- Operational aspects of safety management
- Marine-related management system audits
- Effective communication with shipboard staff and shore management
