Offshore Guideline

DNV GL has published its new “Guideline for the Certification of Offshore Wind Turbines, Edition 2012.” This Guideline entered into force in December 2012 and was compiled in cooperation with the Wind and Marine Energy Committee.

The updated guideline follows the main developments in the offshore wind industry. It contains latest testing conditions, safety systems and quality requirements.


It now considers: 

  • Enhanced Type and Project Certification requirements

  • Floating wind turbines

  • Risk-based certification for innovative designs

  • Safety requirements for „intelligent“ turbines

  • Updated load case definitions

  • Design basis and site assessment

  • Updated steel and concrete structure requirements

  • Corrosion protection

  • Marine operations, transport & installation
