Optimized for Offshore – GL Garrad Hassan Winner of Two DOE Grants
5. Apr. 2012 | To meet the renewable energy targets of the next century, offshore wind projects hold great promise with steady, strong winds, abundant space and low impacts. These benefits are not without their challenges, however, as developing offshore wind power projects requires significant investment, expertise and a reliable knowledge base. To help build this base, GL Garrad Hassan, part of the GL Group, has been awarded grants by the US Department of Energy (DOE) of $500,000 and $200,000 to fund two studies to identify optimal strategies for the installation, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind farms and to assess the readiness of US ports to meet the needs of the industry.

Ian Finch will be responsible for managing sales and business development activities for the GL Group with a special focus on offshore wind. He will work closely with Christoph Thiel, the newly appointed Head of Business Development and Sales for GL Garrad Hassan and Colin Morgan, who leads the Group’s Offshore Wind Practice.

Mr. Thiel will be responsible for managing global sales and business development for GL Garrad Hassan worldwide, working from the Head Office in Hamburg. He started in his new position on 1 March 2012.

Jan. 2012 | To support the developers and financiers of South Africa’s burgeoning wind power industry GL Garrad Hassan opened its first office in the Rainbow Nation, in Cape Town on 1 January 2012. South Africa is ideally suited for renewable energy development, given its abundant wind and solar resources, ample number of suitable sites and modern high voltage electrical infrastructure. The opening of the new office will mean that GL Garrad Hassan can now offer its clients a local point of contact for its global network of experts.
