Dec. 2011 | ISO New England Selects GL Garrad Hassan as Wind Power Forecaster In order to manage wind generation in its real-time and day-ahead markets, the system operator for the New England area of the U.S., ISO New England Inc., has awarded GL Garrad Hassan a two-year contract to provide wind power forecasting services to all wind in the ISO’s footprint, including generation within the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. more

Dec. 2011 | GL Garrad Hassan Caters for Wind in Pakistan Recent studies conducted by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratories have shown that the coastal belt of Pakistan features a wind corridor with an exploitable wind power potential of up to 50,000 MW. To date the Government of Pakistan has awarded letters of intent to 35 wind power projects with a total capacity of more than 1,500 MW. International Development Banks are financing several of these projects. more

This will require the use of more complex braced support structures such as jackets instead of the more widely used monopole foundations. For modelling OWT-specific aspects such as rotor aerodynamics and control system actions, designers are required to use a dedicated aero-elastic wind turbine design tool.
