Large Scale Hazards Testing

Large Scale Hazards Testing

Spadeadam Test Site

GL's Spadeadam facility can test designs, products, processes and materials at large or full scale in a safe controlled manner.

The Spadeadam Test Site is a world class centre where full scale destructive and non-destructive experiments of a hazardous nature can be designed and conducted professionally, discreetly and with complete confidentiality.

This unique site carries out research, investigative testing and technical project work for the energy sector, as well as specialist work for other industries and various Government agencies.

The testing can demonstrate that items are fit for purpose, test new products, techniques or processes or provide data to validate computer models. Typical projects undertaken involve some or all of the following features:

  • Flammable or toxic gases or liquids
  • High pressures or temperatures
  • Cryogenic liquids including LNG
  • High explosives
  • Large-scale test rigs
  • Rapid data capture
  • Risk of loss of containment
