SynerGEE Electric

Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains the answers to frequently asked questions regarding SynerGEE Electric.

What type of electric systems can be modeled with SynerGEE Electric?
SynerGEE can analyze grounded or ungrounded, radial, looped, and meshed systems comprised of multiple voltages. SynerGEE models conductors, transformers, generators, regulators, capacitors, and protective devices using name plate data in straight forward user interface.

What type of analysis can be run on these systems?
A variety of calculations are available including: power flow, voltage drop/rise, symmetrical and asymmetrical faults, capacitor placement, cable ampacity, contingency switching, switch optimization, harmonic impedance, motor starting, phase balancing, predictive reliability, and protective device coordination. SynerGEE also includes advanced tools that utilize load curves to determine total energy flow and losses over time.

What hardware and software are required?
SynerGEE requires Windows NT, 2000 or XP running on an Intel Pentium II with a minimum of 256 Mb of RAM, 100 Mb of hard disk space, 800 x 600 resolution video, and a mouse.

How is SynerGEE used?
SynerGEE is used by power engineers to help plan and operate their distribution systems. The product is used for everything from multi year work plans to assisting operators with switch plans for maintenance or emergency situations.

How are the analysis results presented?
The calculation results are available in several forms, in user configured HTML reports, in Access tables, and on the single line diagram with user defined coloring or as text labels. The single line display can then be output to any Windows supported printer or plotter.

How do you get model data into SynerGEE?
Data can be input via the editor, digitized using a mouse, or loaded from a GIS, CIS, or SCADA system using MiddleLink. MiddleLink is a tool that reads .csv files, assigns default values for missing or out of range data, and then loads the information into the SynerGEE database for analysis.

What separates SynerGEE from other modeling tools?
There are three main areas: advanced analyses, user interface, and data management:

Advanced Analyses
SynerGEE has been at the forefront of distribution modeling with looped fault analysis, synchronous and induction generators, auto-transfer switches, by-phase/root cause predictive reliability, and energy calculations using load curve data. These analyses have been driven by our customers who continue to provide us a source of new distribution problems to solve.

User Interface
The SynerGEE user interface is designed for rapid model building and instant feedback with drag/drop of conductors and equipment along with a modeless editor and the ability to zoom to any device or line section from the reports.

Data Management

The biggest challenge in analyzing electric systems is gathering, validating, and managing the data required. SynerGEE helps in this area with tools to assist in automatically detecting and correcting phase mis-matches and loops. SynerGEE also has tools that let you merge, split, and even compare models to identify differences. Finally all SynerGEE data is stored in a fully documented open database that requires no third party drivers or options to manage. (Access, SQL Server or Oracle)
