Recreational Craft

Obtain the CE mark

Do you need CE marking for your imported pleasure boat? GL provides certification according to the European Directive for Recreational Craft, a quality standard for series production of boats and high-performance yachts.

CE certification for recreational craft

Small boats and pleasure craft can only be operated and sold in the European Union when CE-certified. The "Directive for Recreational Craft (94/25/EC)" applies to craft from 2.5 m up to 24 m in hull length and certifies that the craft complies with the essential safety requirements of the Directive. Shipyards, importers, and private owners alike are responsible for the conformity with the Directive of the craft placed on the market by them. GL is accredited as "Certification and Testing Body" and carries out the examinations and tests and awards the CE marks.

Certification of rigs

Sailing has become more competitive with regard to speed, agility and overall performance. Consequently, the majority of large high-performance yachts are increasingly specified with carbon-fibre spars. This approach offers elegant engineering solutions while taking full advantage of the material's characteristics. Germanischer Lloyd is the only institution which has set criteria for the assessment and approval of large modern yacht rigs. The newly-published GL Guidelines put a special focus on masts constructed of carbon fibre.

GL CE-Yacht Plus

Raising safety standards by going beyond the ISO and the EU Directive requirements. GL CE-Yacht Plus not only ensures that the EC type examination requirements are fulfilled for a yacht prototype but it also verifies the modifications resulting from requests for changes during the construction.  Regular random surveys performed during the serial production allow the detection of potential problems at early stage, improving the quality standards as well as the manufacturing process. Additional services such as shop approval or material approval are provided as required.
