Renewables

With rising energy prices and increased impact of waste disposal, water companies are investigating methods for increasing savings and reducing costs. With significant heat and power requirements in treatment processes there is an ideal match with combined heat and power (CHP) technology.

In addition, the water treatment process results in the production of gaseous biofuel which can be used as the fuel for a CHP installation. As a result there are multiple benefits open to water companies to reduce costs and improve revenue through Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs).

GL Water can assist in the development of equipment and technologies that utilise biogases and other non-natural gases. GL has developed a range of technologies for optimum and clean utilisation of natural gas fuel that is now being extended to other fuel gases.

By utilising proven natural gas technology, suitably adapted for biofuel, the benefits of many years development can be transferred to biogas fuel applications. GL also has solid fuel expertise originating in coal processing for substitute natural gas, but extended to include other fuels such as sludge, wood and other refuse-derived fuel (RDF).
