The scientific paper in detail and the registration documents for the GL Award
The topic

The topic in 2008 is:
Increasing the energy efficiency of ships
Focal points of the topic
You should treat the topic within one of the following three areas (the questions might help you but are not mandatory):
A. Ship construction
General question:
Through what ship-building measures can the energy requirements of a ship be reduced? (e.g. improved hull design of new constructions, retrofitting in the inflow of the propeller)
B. Maritime engineering
General question:
Through which measures can the efficiency of energy transformation be improved? (e.g. alternative drives and/or retrofitting, HFO-free drives or alternative fuels, implementation of technologies that have originated in areas not related to ship technologies and have been applied successfully)
C. Ship operation
General question
What are the improvements in which a more efficient use of energy in a ship’s operation can result? (e.g. navigation or routing, fleet management, loading and unloading times, new feeder concepts with improved freight flexibility)
The evaluation criteria
In the evaluation of all papers submitted the following criteria are applied:
- Technical feasibility
- Economic benefit
- Operational safety
- Benefit for the environment
- Quality of the paper (comprehensibility, evaluation of the data, completeness, structural clarity)
