Research

Experience and load assumptions for conventional structures are only of limited value in the design of wind turbines. Therefore, GL Wind is involved in research supported by measurements leading to the establishment of design rules. This is done in close co-operation with national and international agencies and is partly funded by the Federal and State Ministries in Germany and the European Union.
Research Projects
GL Wind has co-operated in a number of national and international joint research projects. The following list contains those projects for which currently work is being carried out.
German Projects
- Research Platforms in North and Baltic Sea (FINO)
- Research Project No. P633
- Research Project “IMO-Wind”
- Research Project “GROW” (GROW)
European Projects
- Recommendations for Design of Offshore Wind Turbines (RECOFF)
- Reliable Optimal Use of Materials for Wind Turbine Rotor Blades (OPTIMAT BLADES)
- Reduction of Ship Collision Risks for Offshore Wind Farms (SAFESHIP)
- DOWNVInD
Distant Offshore Windfarms with No Visual Impact in Deepwater
