Hamburg/Athens, 11 April 2005 - A newly established team of Germanischer Lloyd tanker and bulker experts supports the Greek Marine Industry. Based in the Piraeus office, highly qualified marine engineers and naval architects provide a wide variety of engineering services including specialized tanker and bulk carrier surveys. With the introduction of a tanker and bulker expert team, Germanischer Lloyd adapts its client service to the needs of the market: Tanker expertise is now provided in the native language to the Greek market. These services will include technical support in new-building projects, Condition Assessments Programs (CAP) and Condition Assessments Surveys (CAS), evaluations of Enhanced Survey Programs (ESP) support of dry docking and repairs, admission to class, implementation of IACS Unified Requirements, issuance of full term certificates and class extensions. It is envisioned and planned that a wide variety of services will be provided to assist the Owner technical team alleviate the uncertainties before, during and after contract negotiations. More specifically the team will be able to evaluate and provide input to the proposed vessel specifications in both the Hull and Machinery areas as well as assess critically the available design drawings and proposals. Furthermore, consultancy services during Plan Approval will be provided at owner’s request. In an effort to streamline and facilitate communication and increase effectiveness, the team will be the liaison between the owner and GL Project Manager on site. It will be thus tasked to clarify, propose and assess the inevitable modifications or any other new-building issue during the construction stage.
